Crater Lake
November 5, 2007 on 4:52 pm | In General | No Comments Tags: crater lake, oregonLast weekend, I went to Oregon to visit my parents (who live there) and my brother (who was visiting them). On Sunday, we made a day trip over to Crater Lake. For those who haven’t been, it’s quite the sight. Because it’s so deep (the deepest in the United States, 7th deepest in the world) and because its water is so pure, it has a very deep blue color unlike most other lakes. It sits in a depression on top of what used to be a mountain. It was created by the collapse of Mount Mazama about 7,000 years ago after several volcano eruptions. Consequently, there are no rivers going in or out of the lake. All its water comes from rain and snowfall that accumulates.
