So Tired

It’s late but I’m trying to stay up to catch the lunar eclipse. The moon is already partially covered, but the total coverage is supposed to start at 2:52am which is still a few more minutes away. After that, I should be promptly in bed. Yawn, I’m tired.

Running

For the first time in a long while, I was healthy enough (I have a mild head cold) and awake enough to actually get up and make it to Frontrunners at Green Lake this morning at 9am. It felt great to be out running again on Saturday morning. The socializing afterwards at Zoka was also enjoyable as usual. The more I think about it, the more I realize I tend to have a better time running and chatting on Saturday morning than I do going out on Friday nights. That’s probably why I do the latter a lot less than I used to and have been trying to do the former more often.

Identification

After having dinner with Robert, Mckenzie, Joe, Ben and various members of the latter two’s families, Robert, Ben and I went over to Madison Pub where we waited in line to get in for quite a while. Unfortunately, I’d left my ID in my shorts from when I went to Madison Park Beach this afternoon. The doorman wouldn’t let me in, so I ended up just walking all the way back home. It particularly annoys me, because I know I don’t look under 21. Moreover, the doorman was being inconsistent in who he was asking to see ID from, which pisses me off.

The whole thing just reminds me how over the whole bar scene I’ve become in the past few months.

Cheerwine

I was wasting time browsing around the web when I ran across something about Cheerwine. I’d totally forgotten about that stuff. I can’t believe somebody has a whole site devoted to Cheerwine fandom. Bizarre but fun I suppose.

iTunes

Generally it seems that most every album (except what normally comes on more than 1 CD) on iTunes costs $9.99. However, I bought Stereo Total’s ‘Do the Bambi’ for $5.99 the other day. In fact, the main reason I bought the album was because for 19 songs it’s a great deal. I kind of wanted a Stereo Total album and the price was right I guess. Oh yes, indie Europop sung mostly in German and French. What’s not to like?

Clipper Goodness

About 10 years ago, I bought a decent, mid-grade pair of clippers from Walgreens. I’m not sure what happened to them, but I think I may have lost them in one of the moves to Germany. Either way, they lasted me through most of college without incident. After that, I’ve gone through several pairs of super cheap (like $10) clippers from Target. The problem is that they don’t work particularly well and tend to break in a short amount of time. Unfortunately, stores that sell more expensive products tend to just sell the same old cheap pair of clippers with more attachments, a cape, scissors, etc. I don’t need all that crap.

Recently, I decided to spring for a nice pair of hair clippers. I ordered these Andis Improved Master Clippers from Amazon last week, but just got around to using them this morning to cut my hair. Wow, what a difference a good pair makes! With the cheapo clippers, I typically have to run the clippers over the same area several times and run them kind of slowly so that my hair doesn’t jam them up. With the new ones, everything is quick and complete.

The Summer that Isn’t

It’s 1pm, 60F outside and raining. Who cancelled summer?

Socializing

I ended up working a bit later than I expected yesterday. Afterwards, I went shopping at Target, Macy’s and Fred Meyer in Redmond to wait out the traffic and pick up some necessary items. Macy’s was a total bust–the store in Redmond is absolutely tiny and had very limited selection. The main purchase of the day occurred at Fred Meyer where I picked up some cute new underwear for an underwear party I’m planning to attend tonight.

By the time I got home and ate dinner, it was pretty late. I’d been thinking about catching the Pierced Arrows show at the Funhouse, but I wasn’t feeling it and it would have been too late by the time I walked over to Seattle Center anyways. Figuring I’d just stay home for the night, I started doing some laundry. Eventually Robert called and to make a longer story short, we ended up at The Cuff.

It was a rather unexpected evening in many ways. I met this cute guy on the dance floor who stuck around through breakfast. :) I really had no intention of taking anybody home (let alone going out in the first place), but there was some good clickage with him. It’s always awesome when there’s both good sex and good conversation.

Today I’m just taking things easy, getting some laundry and unpacking done.

Why I Hate amazon.com

August 14, 2007 on 11:18 pm | In General | 4 Comments Tag:

A few months back, I signed up for Amazon Prime with the hope that it would encourage my laziness of ordering things from online instead of running around to stores picking said items up. You see, with Amazon Prime you get free 2 day shipping.

What I hate about this is that it only works for products sold by Amazon themselves, not their partners. This is completely understandable, but the part that angers me is that it’s so damn hard to find these products! Whenever I search for anything, I feel like I’m wading through the online equivalent of a giant garbage dump full of random items from random vendors. The user experience of seeing the product I’m looking for 278 times separately, because each one comes from a different vendor sucks.

Frankly, I think they should just get rid of these stupid third party vendors or at least spin that off onto a separate site. It really harms the usability and desirability of Amazon itself. Failing that, I want a “search only for items eligible for Amazon Prime free shipping” or “search only for items directly sold by Amazon”. Is that so much to ask for?

Getting Better

Time flies in blog time when you’re sick I guess. I can’t believe Wednesday was the last time I posted.

Anyways, after that last post, things only got worse. My fever went up (over 103F on Wed night), my headache started to suck more and I just generally felt lousy. On Friday I went to the doctor who said I probably had strep throat or something similar but viral. I’ve been on antibiotics since then and have been feeling a lot better. The last time I registered a real fever was last night. My energy level has improved greatly. My throat is still decently sore although it is feeling gradually better with time.

I’m certainly not completely healthy again yet, but I am certainly feeling a lot better.
