Reunion

June 25, 2007 on 11:51 pm | In General | No Comments Tags: ,

I don’t check myspace particularly often, but I do try to log in every once in a while just to see if I have any messages from people I know. Today I found two messages, both from old high school friends asking if I’m going to attend our tenth reunion in September. When I first heard about it, I didn’t feel like going at all, but gradually I’ve been changing my mind over the past few weeks. First, when fellow alums contact me about it, it makes me want to see them. Second, most friends I know who have gone to a reunion in the past say they had a really fun time.

So I’m tempted to fly down to LA for it and maybe make it into a three day weekend to see family as well.

Update: So I bought the plane ticket, which I guess means I’m going.

Cruddy Health Day

It had been something like 6 weeks since I last swam, so I was actually proud of myself this evening when I made it to Orcas. Unfortunately, as I was going into the shower, I slipped, fell and landed on my hand, elbow and my lower back. I took a quick moment to check myself out and everything seemed pretty much ok. My fingertips were numb briefly, but the sensation came back after a minute or so. There was no blood or areas that were extremely tender.

I didn’t complete the workout because I was so exhausted, I’m assuming because I just hadn’t swum in so long. Still, I got an hour in which is pretty respectable. On my way home, I went to Trader Joe’s to buy some groceries. When I got home, I was simply exhausted. I put away the groceries, took out my contacts, brushed my teeth and went to bed. I also took some advil for the pain in my hand and arm. Upon getting into bed, I started shivering and felt very cold, but eventually I mellowed out and fell asleep. About 30 minutes later, I woke up feeling extremely warm. I layed in bed for a while trying to sleep, but eventually gave up, got up and took my temperature–100.8F with 2 ibuprofen in me for 2.5 hours. :(

So now I’m officially sick, insomniac and suppressing my fever when I probably shouldn’t be. Ugh. I’m going to try to stay up a bit longer to test my temperature again after the ibuprofen has worn off.

I hate being sick!

ugh

Last weekend was Seattle Pride. My friends Jean and Javed came down from Vancouver to visit as well. I’m really too lazy to post a whole lot about it, but you can find my pictures here.

New Apartment

June 19, 2007 on 12:06 am | In General | No Comments Tag:

I’ve been thinking about moving a lot over the past couple months. I even toyed with the idea of moving to the Eastside to be closer to work, but ultimately dismissed it. Robert and I talked a bit about looking for a place, but in the end it didn’t work out. For a while, I looked on craigslist for potential roommates too, but all seemed too bohemian, too strange or too expensive. Saving money and being more social by living with a roommate is appealing to me again after living on my own for about a year and a half.

Recently, my friend Ben has been looking for a place and a roommate too, so the two of us decided to pair up and combine resources. We looked at a few two bedroom places, but the number of listings for what we want seem to be few and far between. It feels like there’s less rental housing stock available on Capitol Hill than when I was looking 1.5 years ago. Maybe it’s also the type of housing though too as it seems like there’s a lot more 1 bedroom places than 2 bedroom places.

Anyhow, after searching for not too long, we found a place we liked last week and put in an application. This morning the manager called, we accepted and tonight we went to sign the lease and pay the deposit. It’s on Bellevue Ave near Denny Way which is about 2 small blocks from my current place. Because it’s a hair closer to the bus stop, it’ll actually shorten my commute by about 10 minutes each day total (at least it’s not an increase). It’s a 2 bedroom/2 bath (I’m getting the master bedroom with attached bath) and about 1000 sq. ft. with big bedrooms and smaller bathrooms/kitchen. A reserved off street parking space is included for less than I’m paying now for parking. I’ll be saving about $500/mo after rent and parking, which will also be nice.

Move in is August 1st, so there’s still quite a bit of time between now and then to pack and plan. Technically I still have until early next month to give official notice for leaving my current place, but I’ve already given the manager a heads up. Hopefully, I’ll be able to work something out without having to pay two rents simultaneously for the entire month of August.

Stuck in My Head

Last week while driving to work, the DJ on KEXP played the B-52’s ‘Rock Lobster’. I then got the song stuck in my head and had to go download it off of iTunes. This modern technical age has made it all too easy to get your fix of a stuck song. For you viewing pleasure, a live performance of said song from the late 70s with a young Fred Schneider sporting a wife beater.

Saturday Night

June 17, 2007 on 8:08 pm | In General | No Comments Tags: , , ,

After the parade and parties, I went home to rest up and eat dinner. I met up with Ken and his friend Rob at Manray first. From there, several of us went to the Cuff, where it was underwear night. Not many people were in their underwear though, so neither were we. I saw this amusing sign at the clothes check (where I checked my hoodie into a brown paper bag):

boxers w/ jello shots

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a $20 of underwear that comes with 3 jello shots before.

After a while, a few of us decided to run over to the Eagle for jock strap night. I did not bring a jock, so I just stood around in my underwear, which was fun since it was decently warm in the place. Around this time, I realized I’d left my credit card back at the Cuff, so after leaving the Eagle a few of us went back to the Cuff. Outside the Eagle there was a car parked with odd items on its dashboard and rear (whatever that thing in the back of a car under the rear windshield is):

At the Cuff I picked up my credit card, then danced with Ken for a bit during after hours before heading home.

It was a long night! Upon arriving at home, I took this shot showing the new number written on my wrists for each underwear night:

Fremont Solstice Parade

On Saturday, a bunch of us went over to Fremont to watch the annual Solstice Parade. It’s a unique parade in that no text or logos are allowed on anything in the parade. Consequently, it focuses on more general visual and auditory elements. I only brought my cell phone camera, but I was able to snap a few shots which can be found here.

Beforehand there was a brunch party at Ben and Jeff’s in Wallingford and afterwards nearby at Mike’s place. It was a nice morning/afternoon.

Boot Camp

June 12, 2007 on 1:40 am | In General | No Comments Tags: , , , ,

This evening I finally spent several hours getting Boot Camp installed and working on my laptop. Vista actually runs really nicely on the machine. I was also able to get everything configured for working remotely, which means I now effectively have a portable work station!

VMWare technically works when I tell it to run off the boot camp partition. However, it installs drivers which mess everything up when I go back to boot camp. Perhaps I’ll be able to find some nice happy medium state, but Windows just runs so much better under boot camp than under virtualization.

Wow, I’m really tired now though!
