Oil Change

I took my car over to Pennzoil 10 Minute Oil Change in Redmond to (what else?) get the oil changed. In the past, I’ve pretty much always gone to Jiffy Lube. I know they’re a terrible place to have work done on your car, but I just don’t have the patience to make an appointment and then wait around for longish periods of time to have it done at a regular mechanic. The thing that really ticks me off about them though is that they always seem to find something wrong with my car and proceed to ask me if I want that taken care of too. When I know they’re trying to screw me over, I say no, but when I don’t know what they’re talking about I usually capitulate. The Jiffy Lube in Bellevue near work seems to be worse about this than others. Plus, if I recall correctly it had an icky waiting room (greasy floor is the waiting area–not the shop floor).
So I figured I’d try a different place this time and see how it went. I can’t complain (at least so far) about the Pennzoil place. The service was very, very quick (there wasn’t any wait though), the guy helping me was hot and polite and most importantly they didn’t try to sell me a transmission flush, air filter or similar. Even with name brand oil, it only cost about $30 although admittedly I did get a Microsoft discount of 25%.

man, i’ve gotten my last two oil changes done at penzoil and i didn’t know about an ms discount. bummer!
That discount program sounds good - finally, a fair shake for the Microsoft employee!
Paul recently had a Jiffy Lube horror story - they stole a few dollars in change that he put in the car THAT DAY for PARKING RIGHT AFTER THE OIL CHANGE but of course there’s nothing Jiffy Lube could do, blah blah blah…
