Last Night in Town

After the suggestion of Michael and Bev, last night I had a sort of going away dinner at Panzanella in Carrboro. Several people from different social circles of mine came and we all had a pretty nice time. I’d never eaten there before, but the food was good too (all organic and much of it local too). From there, a few of us (Jason, Sarah, Jeff T, Brad, Aaron and I) went to the Spotted Dog for a drink. They were having this neat special where you describe what kind of beer you’re looking for and they pick one for you (saving you $1). After that, Jeff T and I went over to the Reservoir (which I had never been to before) for yet another drink before joining up with Mike, Ipek and Russ at Fuse later. All told, I had five drinks over the course of the night, which is more than usual for me. I had a fairly tiny headache this morning, but it was nothing too bad really.

The rest of the day has been spent packing. Currently, I’ve got all my dishes, pots and pans packed into their boxes. I’ve begun filling a box with important papers that I’m too lazy to file right now. The big things remaining are packing all my clothes up (I’m going to need some extra trash bags for that) and loading everything into the car. I also still need to go to Sitterson tonight to turn in my keys and wrap up my work. There’s no way I will finish everything I had intended to do, but I think I’ve put in enough time on this work to wrap things up. We’ll see what happens though. Regardless, I need to get out of town by tomorrow if I plan to have any time available in California for Christmas.

This evening, I made a TripTik on AAA website. The route I’m planning to take is about 2700 miles which means about 4 days of 675 miles each. Here’s my tentative itinerary:

Day 1: Carrboro, NC to Mobile, AL
Day 2: Mobile, AL to San Antonio, TX (stop in Baton Rouge, LA for lunch with a friend hopefully)
Day 3: San Antonio, TX to somewhere near the AZ/NM border
Day 4: AZ/NM border to San Clemente, CA

In practice, I’d rather not stay in any of these actual cities in order to keep hotel prices down, but this is the general plan. We’ll see how things go, but it’s good to have goals.
