Now that it’s official that I’ll be moving to Seattle soon, there are so many other things to worry about!
First, I need to find somebody to take over my lease. If you or anybody you happen to know is looking for a nice place to share with my 2 existing roommates starting in December or January, let me know. You’d have your own bedroom and bathroom in a duplex with a yard, use of our large driveway for parking, located right on the CW bus line (stop is just one house down). Rent is $400/month, but the place is only about 5 years old with lots of nice ammenities like washer+dryer upstairs, hard wood floor in the living room, ceiling fans in every room, A/C, etc. I’m going to start sending out “roommate wanted” emails to various listservs and posting on places like craigslist after the Thanksgiving holiday.
Since I’ve taken a big wad of cash from Microsoft instead of using their full range of relocation services, I’m planning to get rid of my furniture then drive what remains across country in my car. Ketee has already claimed my bookshelf, but I have a simple desk (originally like $100, used for my computer) and a full sized bed w/ box spring ($600 new) that I’ll be selling too. Soon enough, I’ll probably put together photo ads for all this stuff and send them around to various listservs as well as post them here first for my loyal readers.
Next, there’s the acutal logistics of moving. My plan is to drive from here to San Clemente (where my parents live) for the holidays, go to Nicaragua, come back to southern CA, then head up to Seattle. I want to take an as southernly route as possible going back to reduce the chances of cold weather delaying things. Plus, I’ve already driven the entirety of I-40 already on my way out here, so perhaps I’ll do something different this time. Apparently, it’s only like 25 miles more (although AAA and Google both say about 2 hours longer) to take I-85 south to I-20 to I-10 to I-8 to I-5. When I go depends a lot on how school finishes up. I believe my last final is going to be on 12/10, so probably some time shortly after that.
Currently, I’m planning to drive alone. It would be rad if I had somebody to join me on my cross country trip, partially or all the way. Hint, hint: that means if you want a free one-way cross-country road trip (a great way to see the southern portion of our fine nation), contact me. I (actually Microsoft) would be paying for hotels, gas, food, etc. You’d just need a way to get back to where ever you’re trying to get afterwards. My friend Jeremy from undergrad expressed interest, but he’s going to be traveling abroad around that time and hence won’t be able to do it. Also, if you just want to be dropped off along the way somewhere (like I said I’ll probably be taking I-20 and I-10, but modifications are possible if it means I’ll have company) that would be rad too.
Tomorrow is Thanksgiving and I’m heading over to have dinner with my friend Ketee’s family in Winston-Salem. It sounds like it’s turning into a major family gathering. Her family is interesting, so it should be a good time.
