Whew….
January 28, 2005 on 1:46 am | In General | No Comments No TagsToday was quite the whirlwind of activities.
This morning, I got up a bit early so I could jet over to Target to buy some blank cassettes to tape my show this weekend. I also decided to go by Guglhupf since it’s also near Target over in Durham. Two of the Brezeln along with a glass of orange juice became my hurried brunch around noon.
Upon arriving on campus, I went to the new weekly nano-cs meeting, then two classes, then a meeting with my advisor, and then a meeting with Avneesh about this paper I’m helping him out on. So much sitting and listening.
Anyhow, I came home and cooked myself some dinner and later a batch of oatmeal cookies. Unfortunately, I didn’t have so much milk left and could only eat a few cookies (maybe that’s really a good thing).
Friday should be nice. I have the first official radio show, which I hope will be educational and entertaining to the listeners as well as myself. Jeff T. is throwing an “Irish Car Bomb Party” which I’ll hopefully be able to drop by beforehand, although I’m not sure I’ll be able to take part in the Guinness + Liquor festivities being that I have to drive to Chapel Hill afterwards.
Pay Your Taxes or Else …

Die Da !?!
January 24, 2005 on 2:25 am | In General | No Comments No TagsMan, it’s been too long since I’ve heard that song. I need to beef up my German music collection–more specifically my German hip-hop collection.
More Radio
January 21, 2005 on 11:26 pm | In General | No Comments No TagsSo, I’m about to head off to my training shift for the radio station. Things sure move fast around here! I also found out my weekly time slot for the rest of the semster: Saturday morning (Friday night) midnight to 3am EST, which is certainly not bad at all. There’s various streams available from the WXYC website too for all you out there to listen.
Thursday
January 21, 2005 on 1:58 am | In General | No Comments No TagsSo, I woke up late and had to run off to class without eating anything. This was particularly bad since I don’t have class until 2pm on Tuesday and Thursday. My schedule built around lazy afternoons is most likely going to come to an end soon. First, I found out today that I’m going to have a meeting Monday mornings (ugh). Plus, I have to wait and see what time slot I end up getting for the radio too. There are 7 3-6ams, 7 6-8am and 1 12-3am up for grabs. I’m not sure what if any control/preference I have over which time I get, but I suppose I’ll figure things out.
In other news, I drove out to DHL in Morrisville today to pick up the box containing some books and a waffle iron (I got it for Christmas). It was sent Dec 28, but my dad copied the wrong address down because of my mother’s ambiguous handwriting. Anyhow, the box had been sitting there since Jan 4.
It’s supposed to snow tonight, but I don’t think it has yet. Just some rain. On Wednesday, we got a whopping half inch of snow here. In Wake County (where Raleigh is), they got an inch and disaster ensued. Not only were schools closed on Thursday, but at a couple schools kids had to spend the night because certain roads were impassible. Apparently, there were lots of abandoned cars on various highways in the area too. My dad was telling me today that he saw all this on the news in southern California as well. Amusing.
Radio
January 20, 2005 on 1:43 am | In General | 1 Comment No TagsLooks like I’m gonna be back on the radio this coming semester at WXYC Chapel Hill.
Frankly, my music tastes need fresh blood.
Unlike KALX, there’s not really any volunteer requirements. They hire DJs straight out through an interview process (which I took part in on Tuesday). Apparently, I have to go to some meetings this weekend for training and to find out what God-forsaken hour I’ll be on weekly for the rest of the semester.
Snow
January 19, 2005 on 12:48 pm | In General | No Comments No TagsWoo hoo! It’s snowing. Yeah! It’s actually sticking to the ground too, which the weather people didn’t really expect. Then again it’s also -6C/21F outside, which means that I think I’m staying home today.

Alice and Bob
January 18, 2005 on 3:57 am | In General | No Comments No TagsFor those of you who don’t know two fictitious characters, Alice and Bob, are often used when discussing problems in computer security (among other fields). Now, I know this is old stuff, but I ran across a lecture from 1984 that is pretty amusing concerning said characters.
