While reading the New York Times today, I came across an article on the use of computer graphics in movie special effects, which made reference to Tolkien “borrowing” the primary concept of The Lord of the Rings of an all powerful cursed ring from Wagner. In fact, Wagner’s “Ring des Nibelungen”. That led me to a throrough, but interesting article in the New Yorker. Neat, even if the New Yorker isn’t really my style. I always get the impression it’s for that same set that listens to NPR.
