munja

So my desktop (name: munja, which means ‘lightning’ in Bosnian and Croatian) is a shell of its former self, now that I have removed the power supply. It looks very sad sitting there. But soon I’ll be shipping it off to sunny California. I was looking on NewEgg yesterday and it looks like I can buy the same power supply I had (world version, not the German version I had before) for about $89. Not bad considering I just sold my used one for about $60. Over the past year, I’ve realy learned the value of buying higher quality components and products. You can really get some decent money for selling things that retain their resale value. I definitely can’t say that for the crappy TV cards, that cheap CD-ROM drive, and that wacky Radeon 7000 (I can’t believe they even call it a Radeon). Those will be donated (or thrown) away.

I definitely need to go mail the power supply to the buyer in Berlin this morning, but I have a few moments until I need to go to the bus. The guy picking up the monitor is coming at 13:00, so I need to be back by then. Plus, I need to finish the slides for my talk sometime today and have Jochen look over them, since the talk is on Monday (1300 in 019 MPI). Doh! I have no time!

Since everything is all packed up, I’m once again back to using veroveraar (the name of my laptop, it means ‘conquerer’ in Dutch). Ya, it’s slow and has a dim tiny screen, but hey, it’s been pretty reliable over the past nearly four years. Soon, it will be replaced by a 15″ Powerbook. Not sure what I’ll do with veroveraar still though. If anybody reading (back in California presumably) needs an old laptop (650MHz Celeron, 30GB drive, 192MB RAM, comes with Windows ME), I’ll sell it to you real cheap.
